Mortar Board Cap & Gown Appeal

Mortar Board, the senior honor society, which was established a little over 10 years ago on UB's campus, needs your help! Mortar Board, Inc. is a national honor society which recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Mortar Board began in 1918 as the first national organization honoring senior college women. When the Society opened its membership to men in 1975, the organization maintained a tribute to the founders and its heritage by strengthening the Preamble to the Constitution to include a commitment to the advancement of the status of women. The UB LAUNCH Chapter does some fundraising to cover the costs of the many community service projects we do, for example, Journals & Blankets & Books for Compass House; Painting a house for an elderly woman in Perry, NY,; adopting an elementary school, and volunteering at UB events. One of the traditions of Mortar Board is to have graduating members and new inductees in caps and gowns at the induction ceremony each spring, but unfortunately we are unable to purchase these items.

How can you help us? We are looking for alumni who would like to donate their cap and gown for the annual induction ceremony. If you would like to donate your cap and gown, your name and graduation year will be embroidered on your donation. If you have any questions, please email us at ublaunch@vpsa.buffalo.edu or call (716) 645-6469 and ask for Julie. If you would like to donate your cap and gown, please mail them to the UB LAUNCH Chapter of Mortar Board, c/o Leadership Development Center, Suite 235 Student Union, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, New York 14260-2100. We appreciate your consideration of our request and being part of the future of our Mortar Board chapter at the University at Buffalo!
